Many films have been made on reincarnation and their plot is almost the same. Madhumati, Kudrat, and Karz are the names we remember in Hindi films. In South India, the theme of reincarnation has been used very well and sometimes science is also added to it. Magadheera, Eega, Anegan have also been successful at the box office. In this it is necessary to mention ‘Eega’ because in this the boyfriend is killed by the villain to get the girl and the boyfriend takes birth again in the form of a fly and takes revenge on the villain in that form. This film was directed by SS Rajamouli (Bahubali). Actor ‘Nani’ had played the role of boyfriend in this film and now the same actor has appeared in director Rahul Sankrityayan’s film ‘Shyam Singha Roy’ in which he is once again a victim of reincarnation. Even if the story is simple, its screenplay makes the film better than the best and this film is a good and true example of that. It must be seen. The film is available on Netflix, with English subtitles.
Vasu (Nani), a software engineer who dreams of becoming a film director, impresses a producer by making a short film and gets a job to make a feature film. Vasu could not understand the climax of this new script, due to which he drinks alcohol. Suddenly his fingers start moving on the keyboard and the script is completed, which the producer likes very much. Vasu makes a film on his script and a press conference is underway to announce the Hindi remake of the film when the police take Vasu away. It is alleged that Vasu’s script is 90% similar to a book by a writer named Shyam Singha Roy. After getting bail from the court, Vasu’s girlfriend and heroine of the short film Keerthi (Keerthi Shetty) gets him hypnotized and then the story unfolds. This backstory or rather the real story of Shyam Singha Roy in the film is in itself a fine example of the fertile mind of the writer. The story of Shyam Singha takes place in 1969 when a wind of political and social change was blowing in the country and as always thinkers and writers were at the forefront of this change in Bengal.
Despite the story of the film being reborn, many beautiful social messages have been kept in it. Against untouchability, Shyam picks up a thirsty Dalit man and throws him into the well and tells him not to walk on the ground on which this Dalit walks, do not breathe the air he breathes. Everyone has rights on land, air and water. Shyam is an atheist and therefore does not mind worshiping God. He is against those priests who take advantage of people by fooling them. They make girls Devadasis and marry them to a stone idol, but do not desist from physically abusing them. Even when Shyam Singha Roy works in a printing press, he writes against the anomalies spread in the society through his books and soon becomes popular among the people, but with his earnings, he spends a lot of money for the revival of Devadasis. Establishes trust.
Actor Nani (real name Ghanta Naveen Babu) is still unknown to the audience of Hindi films. He became Samantha’s boyfriend in Rajamouli’s film Makkhi (Eega). A Hindi remake of his film Jersey is being made in which Shahid Kapoor is playing his role. Nani holds a different place in Telugu films and he has no qualms about playing length roles or roles with negative shades in the role. He has worked hard in this film as well. Both the characters of Shyam Singha and Vasu are similar but their attitude and mood are different. The ideology of both is different. This is rarely seen in reincarnation films. Sai Pallavi and Kirti, both the heroine’s roles are small but important. There are a few more scenes in Sai’s part but the name of the film is Shyam Singha Roy, so the director has focused only on the role of Nani. The twist of the story is good, despite being unexpected, does not startle in a bad way. Hypnotism has also been used properly and its method has also been kept modern. In the initial part of the film, a little comedy and a little romance have been kept, which was necessary before the arrival of Shyam Singha. The role of Madonna Sebastian and Murali Sharma was small and important. Legal proceedings have not been mocked in the court case. However, in the case of plagiarism or stealing a story, one can be directly jailed, this thing seemed strange. After the case is filed, the investigation is done by the court and then punishment can be pronounced.
This is the third film of director Rahul Sankrityayan. Compared to the first two films, this film has become very good and its credit should be given to its writer Satyadev Janga who has written the story of this film. Satyadev has acted in several plays and has been working with South India’s leading audio company Aditya Music over the years. Few people know that Satyadev had auditioned for Ram Gopal Varma’s film ‘Shiva’ years ago but due to an accident he lost the role. This script is his first film script. On hearing the story, first director Rahul and then actor Nani had made up their mind to do this film. There are 5 songs in the film and the title track ‘Shyam Singha Roy’ keeps echoing in the mind for a long time. Music is by Mickey J Meier. The film’s cinematographers are Karthik Calling Karthik, Wazir, and Badhaai Ho’s cinematographer Sanu Hoje Varghese. It is necessary to mention them because Kolkata has been shown many times in films in many ways, but from the point of view of Sanu, Kolkata, that too of seventies, has a different shade. His understanding of cinema can be understood from his camera and shades. The editor is Naveen Nooli, who has edited big and hit Telugu films at least in the last 5-6 years. He has a lot of contribution in covering such a big story. The stories of both Shyam and Vasu are edited well and both are given enough time so that the characters emerge, and yet the duration of the film is controlled.
The number of Nani’s fans is going to increase after watching this film.
